4. South Carolina 16, (11) Georgia 12

Steve Spurrier has always been a thorn in the side of the Georgia Bulldogs ever since he was the head coach of the Florida Gators and he may have prevented Mark Richt’s best team from winning that elusive national title.

It was only the second week of the season, but one of the season’s most defining games would go down in Athens. South Carolina would hold Georgia’s offense without a touchdown and a poor passing day from Bulldogs’ quarterback Matthew Stafford gave the Gamecocks the upset.

This game did not appear to have the significance that it would wind up having because this was still before all of the craziness that would ensue.

I’ve made the argument in the past that Georgia was playing as good of football as any team in the country by the end of this season, but they were not going to  make the BCS title game due to their failure to win the SEC East. If Georgia wins this game, it just may have beaten LSU and advanced to the BCS title game.
