There are a lot of players with much to prove this season for Notre Dame football. Which Fighting Irish players fall under that category?

Since their loss to Clemson in the College Football Playoff national semifinal, Brian Kelly believes the Notre Dame Fighting Irish are close to joining the ranks of the elite. After their win against Iowa State in the Camping World Bowl, Kelly expressed high expectations for this season.

This season should have high expectations for Notre Dame. They’ve won double-digit games for the last three seasons. Recruiting and player development are on the uptick based on the number of high round draft picks Notre Dame has sent to the NFL draft the last couple of years.

Coach Kelly has said very strongly between the players the Irish have recruited and the players that are returning they have a legitimate opportunity to contend for a playoff spot this season. Part of that is the talent coming together and playing well.

That means there are a lot of players with a lot to prove. One of those players is Ian Book. Everyone wants to know if he has what it takes to win a national title. One of the skill players around him who has much to prove is Braden Lenzy.

The knock on the Irish offensive attack is their lack of dynamic perimeter players. Lenzy wears No. 25. Can he invoke memories of another No. 25 from Notre Dame lore?

Here are three other players with a lot to prove.
