ACC football star who led Virginia to the Sugar Bowl

While a close race between Matt Schaub and Shawn Moore, the latter is the top quarterback in Virginia‘s program history due to his versatility.

Moore ranks second in program history with 6,629 passing yards and second with 55 passing touchdowns. He also added 1,268 rushing yards and 28 rushing touchdowns, which ranks seventh in school history.

In 1990, Moore was named the ACC Player of the Year and a Heisman Trophy finalist after throwing for 2,262 yards and 21 touchdowns with 306 rushing yards and eight touchdowns. The Cavaliers went 8-4 on the season and reached the Sugar Bowl, where they dropped a one-point affair to Tennessee.

Virginia posted winning seasons in each of Moore’s four seasons under center and the Cavaliers were ACC co-champions in 1989.

Moore went onto play parts of four seasons in the NFL with the Denver Broncos and Arizona Cardinals while spending two seasons in the CFL.
