Known for one of the greatest plays in ACC football history

Before both College Football and the NFL became pass-heavy, Doug Flutie became a star passer at Boston College.

Flutie is Boston College’s all-time passing leader with10,579 career passing yards and ranks second in program history with 67 touchdown passes.

After finishing as a Heisman Trophy finalist in 1983, Flutie took home the award in 1984 after throwing for 3,454 yards and 27 touchdowns with 379 rushing yards and three touchdowns. The Eagles went 10-2 that season and defeated Houston in the Cotton Bowl.

In the Eagles win over Miami that season, Flutie made one of college football’s most historic plays when he scrambled and threw a Hail Mary to Gerard Phelan to win the game.

On top of the 1984 Heisman Trophy, Flutie took home the Maxwell Award, Walter Camp Award, Davey O’Brien Award, UPI Player of the Year and unanimous All-American honors.

He went onto win three Grey Cups in the Canadian Football League and was named an NFL Pro Bowler and the Comeback Player of the Year in 1998.
