Clemson Football: Ranking Tigers’ 2020 opponents by toughness
It’s tough to tell just how good The Citadel will be heading into the 2020 season, but a 6-6 record in the FCS isn’t anything to write home about.
The Bulldogs did take their only Power Five opponent (Georgia Tech) to overtime last season, pulling off an epic upset, but don’t expect that to happen here. The Bulldogs are projected to finish third in the Southern Conference and could very well end up in the middle of the pack. There won’t be an Appalachian State over Michigan-caliber upset here.
It was tough not to put the Zips at No. 12 on this list because, well, they were one of the only winless teams in the FBS last season, going 0-12.
Tom Arth is in his second year as head coach and really anything would be better than what we saw in 2019. His offense was the worst in the country and getting blown out just about every week couldn’t have been good for the brand.
Don’t expect this one to be close, but Akron will put up more of a fight than The Citadel — just barely.
