Mel Tucker and Michigan State football look to improve on last season’s 7-6 record. Here are three freshmen who could have an impact this season.

The Michigan State Spartans come into this season with a lot of change. All-time winningest head coach Mark Dantonio retired and Mel Tucker takes over for the Spartans after only one year at Colorado. With a new coach also comes a new staff.

Longtime starter Brian Lewerke graduated. Their top three receivers are also all gone. Cody White, Darrell Stewart Jr. and Matt Seybert have all departed East Lansing. With so much turnover and new coaching staff, positions are up for grabs.

Michigan State, however, is a developmental program, so it is difficult to judge which freshman is going to see the field. Most times, frosh players take a redshirt and usually do not see the field until their second or third seasons.

There are some positions where freshman could see time next season. The Spartans recruited heavily at linebacker, wide receiver and defensive line. It will be interesting to see who can break through and get some snaps next season.
