The criticism of the Irish last season was their lack of dynamic offensive playmakers. Every team that made the playoff last season had dynamic offensive playmakers. In fact, Clemson had Travis Etienne, LSU had Jordan Jefferson and Ja’Marr Chase, Oklahoma had CeeDee Lamb and Ohio State had J.K. Dobbins and Chris Olave.

Notre Dame did not have anyone who could score from anywhere on the field. If they want to get back to the playoff — and have a chance to win — it needs speed. This season, one place that could come from is running back. Especially one who can get loose in space.

Incoming freshman all-purpose running back Chris Tyree is fast. Reportedly, he ran a sub 4.4-40 yard dash. Not only that, but he is also a good scheme fit for what Tommy Rees wants to do offensively. Rees is going to add some pro concepts to the Irish offense which includes using the running back as a receiver.

When Tyree gets the ball in space it’s game over. He can run past people and is quick enough to split defenders.

It might be running back by committee this season in South Bend, but expect Rees to scheme for Tyree’s dynamic speed in space.
