Blitz Podcast: Overrated, underrated 2020 College Football Playoff contenders
By Zach Bigalke
This week’s podcast delves into who might be overrated as a College Football Playoff contender heading into 2020 and who might be flying under the radar.
With more campuses opening to welcome back college football players for voluntary offseason workouts, it appears that some form of the 2020 season is going to take place. Preseason magazines are starting to hit the newsstands and reach people’s mailboxes. That means it is time to discuss the odds for teams hoping to make the College Football Playoff and win a national championship.
While the preseason polls won’t come out until August, Las Vegas has been offering futures odds for the 2020 national championship pretty much ever since the confetti started falling on LSU in the previous College Football Playoff title game. Where teams opened in the odds and how those odds have started to shift is the primary point of departure for the discussion in this week’s Saturday Blitz Podcast.
In the opening segment, we dive into a look at those title contenders for 2020 who we think might be the most overrated by the oddsmakers. This doesn’t necessarily mean that a good season isn’t in order for these teams, but rather that they might be getting a little too much love leading into the new campaign.
After the first break, we dive into a look at the opposite side of the coin. Which dark horse College Football Playoff contenders don’t seem to be gaining much steam in the national consciousness? If you had to pick one team that might surprise everyone and emerge as the national champion next season, who might you select and why?
In the final segment, we diverge from our more serious discussion about the upcoming season to talk about a more lighthearted subject — how do pets handle college football Saturdays?
