College Football: 5 receivers who could win 2020 Heisman Trophy
There are a lot of talented receivers in college football, but these are the five that will contend for the 2020 Heisman Trophy.
Only two receivers, Desmond Howard and Tim Brown, have ever won the Heisman Trophy and the former was the last to win it — 29 years ago. There are a handful of receivers who could change that in 2020 and potentially bring the award back to the receiving corps.
The Heisman Trophy has more or less become a quarterback award with the occasional running back getting some attention, most recently Derrick Henry in 2015 and Mark Ingram in 2009. It’s very difficult for other positions to garner attention due all of the factors that go into winning the Heisman Trophy.
Quarterbacks get most of the attention because they are perceived to be the most important position on the field. Teams with the most success are generally there because of their quarterback play and team success has gone a lot into the Heisman discussion, as six of the last seven winners have either been in the playoff or national championship game.
Part of what I think will have to happen for a receiver to be a contender for the Heisman Trophy will involve him being used in a variety of ways as an all-purpose player and the wide out will have to be the key catalyst for the offense that he is in.
Here are the top five receivers who have the best chance to contend for the Heisman in 2020.
