It’s a weird thing to brag about, but the Big Ten has the best second-tier teams of any conference in the sport.

More from Big Ten

All of the teams listed above have consistently been a couple steps behind Ohio State, but they’ve been consistent in their own way. At any given moment in the season, these teams are in the top 25, and some of them in the top 10.  You could even throw Iowa into the mix of these teams.

The SEC, on the other hand, has Georgia, Florida and Auburn in this tier, and none of them have been nearly as consistent as these Big Ten teams.

Now, I understand how saying that is a bit of a stretch, since Georgia and Auburn have both had better accomplishments than any of the Big Ten teams mentioned. The logic I’m using here is that these teams aren’t as consistent of a threat. You know what you’re getting out of these Big Ten teams and they’ll deliver.

Despite this, these two tiers could definitely be considered a wash, which still supports my argument.
