Alabama Football: 3 breakout candidates for 2020
By Dante Pryor
Alabama football looks to return to the College Football Playoff this season and these three players could help the Tide get there.
The Alabama Crimson Tide look to get back in the College Football Playoff after a one-year absence. It was the first time they’d been out of the playoff since its inception in 2014. This season there are many questions in Tuscaloosa.
Talent, however, is not one of those issues. They have four and five-star players all over the field. Despite that talent, there were some noticeable cracks last season that need sealing. The defense was marred by injury and inexperience.
Both were exposed against LSU and Auburn. The front seven did not play to its capabilities against teams with high-powered running games. That needs to change this season.
Part of Alabama’s culture is dealing with turnover. They lose players and coaches every season. This season they did not have much turnover in either space. They did lose lots of player leadership. Xavier McKinney, Tua Tagovaolia and Jerry Jeudy were not only three of the best players on the team, but part of the player leadership.
Who fills those roles. The returning Dylan Moses and Alex Leatherwood are prime candidates. Not only do the Crimson Tide need these players to become leaders, but they also need players to have big seasons.
Here are three players primed to have break out seasons this year.
