5. Jim Harbaugh, Michigan

I had to do it. If you’re a Michigan fan, just do yourself a favor and skip to the next coach on this list. You have no business on this slide. Your coach has underperformed, and I don’t think anybody would outright deny that.

Despite him being on this list, he’s a good coach. In fact, I’d even say he’s a top 15 coach in college football. But to this point, he has capped out at third place in the Big Ten. He’s not really to blame, as Ohio State is on a legendary streak that hasn’t been matched by a Big Ten team in a long time.

He is what I refer to as an “almost-winner”. If Ohio State doesn’t exist, Harbaugh would have likely won multiple Big Ten title games and made the College Football Playoff by now. But the Buckeyes do exist, and Harbaugh is paid over $7 million per year. Third place isn’t worth that much and the standard in Ann Arbor is better than that.

He actually has better results than most of the coaches on this list, but unless he beats OSU in the next couple of years, these fans will get antsy and he’ll likely be on the job market again.
