College Football: 8 non-conference home-and-homes that need to happen
Ohio State vs. Florida State
Admittedly, this would probably be better in a few years once Florida State is really back on track. If you’re a believer in Mike Norvell, a face-off between these two may not have to wait long.
There are two very surprising facts about a potential showdown. The Seminoles and Buckeyes have met three times: all three Florida State victories, none of the three games in Tallahassee.
The first two meetings came in 1981 and 1982, right around the time Bobby Bowden was stating to build the Seminoles up as a national power. The third matchup was the 1998 Sugar Bowl.
This matchup was ripped away from us in the first College Football Playoff. It was arguable Florida State should have been No. 1 and Ohio State was barely able to sneak in at No. 4.
Of course, Ohio State ended up winning that championship, depriving us of what would have been a great matchup between Jameis Winston and red-hot Cardale Jones. A showdown between the season’s Heisman winner and a third string quarterback may not have been a thrilling idea at the time, but knowing what we know now, things could be a whole lot different if that game happened.
For now, Florida State can correctly state that they’re undefeated against the Buckeyes. It doesn’t appear Ohio State will get a chance to erase that fact any time soon.
