It is ironic that an Auburn quarterback would need the “Cam factor” in order to win the Heisman Trophy. That is, however, exactly what sophomore quarterback Bo Nix needs to have any chance to contend for the Heisman Trophy. Nix is playing with a marginal skill group, especially with the transfer of Jatarvious “Boobie” Whitlow.

There is no doubt Bo Nix has to improve as a passer. Can Chad Morris have that effect on Nix? HIs spread seems to be more quarterback friendly. Offensively, everything is going to go through Nix this season. He is clearly the Tigers’ best player and must up his game if Auburn wants to compete in the SEC East.

An Auburn run to the SEC title game and possible College Football Playoff appearance hinges on Nix being the best, most valuable quarterback in the country. They lose Whitlow to the portal, and they lose three of their best defensive players to the NFL draft.

If the Tigers are to make a miracle run this season, it would be Nix evolving into a more accurate passer and taking advantage of running lanes opened to him. Simply put, Nix must wake the echoes of Cam Newton’s 2009.
