Matt Corral gets the nod over John Rhys Plumlee because he’s more of a fit for what new head coach Lane Kiffin wants to do offensively. Though Kiffin has used dual-threat quarterbacks before, Plumlee is not polished enough as a passer to do what the head coach wants.

Corral needs both the “Cam factor” and the “Burrow principle” in order to pull off a run to New York City. Corral would need to elevate a slightly above average skills group in order to pull off a miraculous run which would include defeating Alabama and LSU.

They do have their leading receiver and rusher back from last season. The problem is, their leading rusher last season was quarterback John Rhye Plumlee. As far as the “Burrow principle” is involved, Corral does have a new coach to galvanize him as Burrow did.

If Kiffin can have a similar effect on Corral as Joe Brady had on Joe Burrow, he will exponentially improve from last season to this season. If he and the Rebels hope to make a miracle run, he will have to improve on his numbers from last season.

A quantum leap from last season to this season could have Corral in New York City.
