Texas State football must piece together competent offense in 2020
By Dante Pryor
How will Texas State football fare in 2020?
Young teams are hard to predict and the Bobcats are just that. There are a lot of new faces that are starting this season. Jake Spavital might take a step back to take a step forward next season.
- Sept. 5: vs. SMU (L) — The Mustangs are one of the best teams in the American and led the nation in sacks last season. Not good for the Bobcats.
- Sept. 12: vs. UTSA (W) — This is a 50/50 game for the Bobcats. Can you trust Tyler Vitt or Brady McBride to make plays against a bad defense?
- Sept. 19: at ULM (L) — The Warhawks have an outstanding offense. Texas State won’t be able to stop it.
- Sept. 26: vs. Ohio (L) — Bobcats vs. Bobcats. The ones from Texas can’t stop the run.
- Oct. 3: at New Mexico State (W) — The only defense on the schedule worse than Texas State’s.
- Oct. 8: at Troy (L) — The Trojans put up 60-plus against the Bobcats last season. Most of that team returns.
- Oct. 17: at South Alabama (W) — One of the worst programs in FBS gives Texas State its third win of the year.
- Oct. 31: vs. Louisiana (L) — The Ragin’ Cajuns look for back to back 10-plus win seasons.
- Nov. 7: vs. Appalachian State (L) — One of the best Group of Five teams in the country. No chance here for Texas State.
- Nov. 14: at Georgia Southern (L) — Chad Lunsford is 17-9 in two full seasons as the Eagles’ head coach.
- Nov. 21: vs. Arkansas State (L) — Too much offense for the Bobcats to handle.
- Nov. 28: vs. Coastal Carolina (L) — Beware of any team named after magic poultry.
Prediction: 3-9 (1-8 Sun Belt)
There might be another 50/50 game on their schedule, but with unstable quarterback play and a defense that is young this season, it is hard to predict more wins for the Bobcats.
