Appalachian State is no stranger to success. Everyone points to the shocking victory over Michigan in 2007, but the Mountaineers program has accomplished so much more.

Zac Thomas leads this year’s version that may be just as good as last.

Thomas was a major factor in 13 Mountaineer wins last season which included victories over North Carolina and South Carolina that may have been considered upsets on paper, but was far from shocking.

This year’s schedule has the Carolina schools replaced with Wake Forest and Wisconsin, both of which could very well be down compared to recent years. Wisconsin figures to be a top 25 team when the game is played and all eyes will be in Madison for one of the most intriguing Power Five vs. Group of Five games of the year.

Last season, Thomas threw for 2,718 yards, 28 touchdowns and six interceptions. It’s totally reasonable to think that Thomas can top those numbers this season, as his top four targets, including big play threat Corey Sutton, return to Boone this fall.

If the Mountaineers can get over the Georgia Southern hump, they’ll be in the thick of the New Year’s Six conversation and Thomas will get some major attention nationally.
