After a breakthrough season in 2019, Liberty football is hoping to keep the momentum going in 2020. Can the Flames make another bowl?

The hiring of Hugh Freeze was met with some blowback from a lot of folks and for good reason. He had some misconduct, shall we say, and that does not even include the NCAA violations that happened during his time at Ole Miss.

On the football side of things, Freeze is a very accomplished head coach, winning 10 games in his only season at Arkansas State and then leading Ole Miss to what is arguably the most successful run in school history, one that included beating Alabama multiple times and a Sugar Bowl berth.

In his first season at Liberty, Freeze led the Flames to an 8-5 record and ended it with the first bowl game and postseason win in program history. Liberty has only been a member of the FBS for two seasons, but this program is already trending upward.

While there are several starters needing to be replaced on offense and the defense is young, but there is talent on the roster. For an independent school, Liberty’s schedule is not daunting and is manageable overall.

The Flames are a program on the rise and 2020 could be a stepping stone to something even bigger.
