Greg Schiano is back with Rutgers football for his second tenure as head coach. Can he help make an immediate impact towards improvement?

The Rutgers Scarlet Knights have been the laughing stock of power-five football the past two years.

Playing in a difficult Big Ten East, Rutgers has posted a combined 3-19 record the past two seasons and have not won a game in conference play since 2017.

Seeking a significant turnaround, the Scarlet Knights are calling on a familiar face to bring the program back to relevance: Greg Schiano.

Schiano coached the Scarlet Knights from 2001-2011. He posted an overall record of 68-67 and took the program to six bowl games in which they went 5-1, including wins’ in four straight seasons from 2006-09.

While his prior success at the university cannot be ignored, Schiano faces an uphill climb to get Rutgers back on their feet.

Last year the Scarlet Knights finished among the worst in the nation in several statistical categories in 2019, finished just 2-10, did not win a conference game and did not have a quarterback on the roster that threw for 1,000 yards.

Can Schiano shock the world and bring Rutgers back to a bowl in year one of his second tenure? Or will it be another long season in the Garden State? Here’s a look of what to expect from the 2020 Scarlet Knights.
