Texas A&M Football: Aggies gaining steam on 2021 recruiting trail

Texas A&M football continues to recruit on a high-level despite the many challenges facing all of college football off the field.

The odds of Texas A&M football taking the field any time soon are decreasing by the day, but that hasn’t stopped Jimbo Fisher and Co. on the recruiting front. The Aggies continue to climb the recruiting ranks, elevating their class into the Top 20 after hovering in the low 20s for the first several months of this recruiting cycle.

The Aggies climb was made possible by the commitment of a pair of out-of-state additions in the first weeks of July. On July 4, Tyreek Chappell picked Texas A&M over Big Ten powers Michigan and Penn State. A week later, another corner, Dreyden Norwood chose the Aggies over offers from Auburn, Georgia, Notre Dame and Oklahoma, among others.

Both four-star additions in the secondary are big pickups for the Aggies. Continuing to win battles for blue-chip players against national powers marks yet another sign that Fisher has this team going in the right direction.

As we reach the mid-point of the calendar year, Texas A&M has the No. 6 class in the SEC and the No. 19 class in the nation. After finishing in the Top 10 in each of the previous two seasons, it’s not hard to connect the dots and envision a third-consecutive star-studded class. That would definitively push the program into the rank and file of teams with enough talent to win a national title.

At this point, no one can be certain about what is in store for Texas A&M football this fall. Expectations were high when fans looked at the schedule. The Colorado game has since been canceled and other changes could be on their way. Fisher and his staff can’t control that, but they can control the talent on their roster. On that front, all signs continue to be positive.
