Mel Tucker was in the middle of a turnaround effort at Colorado and then Michigan State came along and made him an offer he couldn’t refuse after one season with the Buffaloes.

Now Karl Dorrell leads the way and he has Pac-12 experience as a former UCLA head coach as well as some NFL experience. He’ll have a rough 2020 season with a new quarterback, two new leading receivers and a defense that ranked No. 104 in the country a year ago.

Colorado may be a 3-4 win team in 2020 and that could be generous.

A 4-8 season in 2019 for Stanford was a major head-scratcher. David Shaw had seen nothing but success at Stanford, but the Cardinal just didn’t fare well on either side of the ball, ranking 97th on offense and 93rd on defense nationally.

KJ Costello is gone as he transferred to Mississippi State with Mike Leach and Cameron Scarlett, too, has left. Davis Mills might be one of the best quarterbacks in the conference heading into the season and that should surprise no one as he’s a former five-star. This offense should improve dramatically.

As long as the defense can get back to the basics, Stanford could be one of the best teams from the Pac-12 and a serious North contender.
