1. Houston Cougars

This is what the University of Houston has wanted for years. They’ve spent millions of dollars in upgrades not just to their facilities, but also to their entire university. The football stadium was upgraded in 2014 and a new indoor football facility is on the way.

The Cougars — along with super donor Tilman Fertitta — paid a lot of money to get Dana Holgorsen back to Houston.

They want to change the narrative about who they are as a school and as a city. Houston is the fourth-largest city by area in the United States. They feel like they need a university that reflects that size. What better way than to join the Power Five?

Houston has already proven they can recruit with any school in Texas landing the likes of Ed Oliver and Deontay Greenberry. Besides, the Big 12 should want into the Houston market. The other Texas schools might not like it, but Houston belongs in the Big 12.

Houston could renew some old SWC — that’s Southwest Conference for the uninitiated– rivalries with Oklahoma, Oklahoma State, Baylor and TCU. And why not? If Houston joins the Big 12, it would have every major college in Texas except A&M.

If the Big 12 looked to the Group of Five for another team, the Cougars make the most sense.
