3. Georgia needs new leaders

It’s a big time of change in Athens. After four years of the Kirby Smart era, many of the early recruits and foundational pieces for the Bulldogs have moved on to the NFL and other ventures. As the next generation of Smart’s Georgia run begins, culture is just as important as play on the field.

That’s especially true on the offensive side of the ball. While eight starters return on defense for Georgia, just two are back on offense. There’s plenty of great talent, but it’s all so young. Zamir White is a sophomore, as well as George Pickens and Dominick Blaylock.

Success on the field starts in the locker room, and Newman has been lauded for his ability to lead. At a program with so much turnover and youth, the former Demon Deacon is exactly what is needed to command this group of young talent.

That calming presence is going to translate onto the field as well. In the inevitable situation where things get frustrating and the offense hits a rough patch, Newman will be the one looked upon to fix things. With a lower interception rate, he has a better history than Daniels when it comes to giving the ball away.

In Athens, the quarterback position has been a point of frustration for a few years. In Jamie Newman, Kirby Smart and the Bulldogs have found their answer.
