Kent State offense has potential to be explosive

Perhaps the most underrated quarterback in the entire nation will return for his fourth season as a starter at Kent State.

Dustin Crum had a stellar 2019 campaign for the Golden Flashes as he threw for 2,625 yards and 20 touchdowns with just two interceptions and a sky-high 69 percent completion rate. He also added 934 yards on the ground with six scores.

In the Frisco Bowl, Crum out-dueled future first-round pick Jordan Love and Utah State as he was named the game’s offensive MVP with 289 passing yards 147 rushing yards and two total touchdowns.

Crum will have his go-to receiver back in 2020 as well in Isaiah McKoy. He hauled in a team-leading 56 catches for 872 yards and eight touchdowns. The Golden Flashes will be without both Mike Carrigan and Kavious Price, who hauled in more than 500 yards receiving each last season but do bring back Antwan Dixon, who made 34 catches for 333 yards and a score.

In the backfield behind Crum, the Golden Flashes will likely turn to Xavier Williams as the starter with Will Matthews gone. Williams ran for 423 yards and four touchdowns on 86 carries in 2019.

Overall, the Golden Flashes offense will feature a steady balance of experience and youth. With Crum under center, Kent State shouldn’t fall too far and may even improve from their spot as the nation’s 64th ranked offense a year ago.
