After a successful run under PJ Fleck, Western Michigan football has remained a winner under head coach Tim Lester. Will that continue in 2020?

If you are successful as a Group of Five program, it is very likely your coach will be hired away and you may regress after a short successful stint. Boise State aside, most Group of Five teams will see a regression and that has not happened yet in Kalamazoo.

While the Broncos have not returned to a MAC championship or a New Year’s Six game, that does not mean they have not been successful as a program. They have won six or more games in every season since PJ Fleck left for Minnesota, which is pretty impressive and despite a tough non-conference schedule.

Western Michigan has the roster to return to the postseason in 2020.

Head coach Tim Lester is a former Western Michigan quarterback and was recently the quarterbacks coach for the Purdue Boilermakers before he took the job in Kalamazoo. He does not have the catchphrases or energy that Fleck did, but he has been solid nonetheless.

This is a roster that has a good bit of seniors in key areas, but they will need to address having a new quarterback and leading rusher.
