Colorado State football is looking to get back in the hunt for the Mountain West title. They will do so by changing their offense and defense in 2020.

As many teams try to find bring themselves to a winning culture, the Colorado Rams are looking to bring themselves back to a winning culture. The Rams are going into the upcoming season with a new whole perspective and new coaching group leading them. This 2020 has started rough for the Rams as they have not gotten the spring to establish their team with their coaching staff.

The Rams decided to move in a different direction from their head coach Mike Bobo after three seasons of 7-6 records and then two seasons of mediocrity. Lobo was not able to continue the previous two successful seasons before he arrived in 2015 where the Rams accumulated an 18-8 record under head coach Jim McElwain.

The Rams decided to hire former Boston College Eagles head coach Steve Addazio for the same position. Addazio was looking for a boost in his coaching career after a 44-44 record (22-34 ACC) for the span of seven seasons. Addazio brought success Boston College’s program but he was never able to bring them out of the middle of the pack.

Both the Rams and Addazio are hoping to bring this once highly successful out of the middle of the pack to the near-top that the Boise State Broncos are at every season. The transition from Lobo’s team to Addazio’s team will not be easy.

Last season, the Rams finished with an overall record of 4-8 (3-5 Mountain West) and in 2018, they finished with a 3-9 (2-6 in conference play) overall record. The Rams finished the previous two seasons with a 7-17 overall record.

There is much room for improvement, but time is something the Rams do not have thanks to the pandemic of COVID-19 ruining the spring training process. This was a time that the Rams could have used to establish a relationship with the coaches and players as well as vitalize the teams’ potential strengths and weaknesses.

The 2020 season will be an unusual season for the new-look Rams program as no one, but the team knows the potential that this talented coaching staff and players. With a difficult schedule for 2020, the Rams could face another underwhelming season. This could be the start of a program that could benefit from continual bowl appearances.
