ACC Football: Each team’s top Heisman Trophy candidate for 2020
By Dante Pryor
Florida State defensive tackle Marvin Wilson has always had loads of potential. Coming out of Episcopal High School in Bellaire, Texas, he was a five-star recruit who was the No. 1 defensive tackle in the country and the sixth-best overall player in his class.
Wilson has had a good career, but most experts feel he could be as dominant as Warren Sapp, Albert Haynesworth and Ndamukong Suh were while they were in college. He lives up to that this season. He’s come back for his senior year at Florida State, and he wants to dominate.
He has four and five-star level players next to him along the defensive line. New defensive coordinator Adam Fuller should be excited to coach such a talented defensive line. If everyone on that defensive line plays to their potential, it is going to be a tough decision on who to double-team.
Wilson, with a majority of one-on-one matchups, could pile up a lot of sacks this season. Keep in mind, he does not have to win the Heisman or even be a finalist, he just needs to be a candidate.
Florida State’s success depends heavily on how well their defense performs since the offense is a work in progress. The defensive performance relies on how dominant Wilson is.
