After a disappointing 2019 season, can Jeff Monken return Army football to uts winning ways? Expectations are reset for the Black Knights.

During the three-year stretch from 2016-18, Jeff Monken had the best run at Army since the Red Blaik era post-World War II. That run included back-to-back 10-win seasons and the first top 25 season since 1996. The last year they won 10 games? Back in 1996.

This year, the Black Knights are coming off a disappointing 5-8 season. It was the first time since 2015 they lost to both Navy and Air Force. Last season included a five-game losing streak and four games in which they gave up over 30 points.

Most of all, last season brought into question everyone secretly wondered about Monken and the Army program: how long can they sustain a high level of success?

Was last year about losing so much production or a harbinger of things to come?

Time will tell on both fronts. For this upcoming season, there is a lot of turnover once again at West Point. They are breaking in new players on both offense and defense. The Black Knights rank 102nd in returning production nationally.

The 2020 campaign will surely be a test of the program’s ability to develop players.

Can the Army Corps return to their winning ways this season?
