Expect deep skill group to make CMU a force on offense

David Moore started the season off as the starting quarterback last year before being suspended after testing positive for a banned substance and Quinten Dormady took over and did an admirable job as the starter.

Dormady is gone now and Moore might be suspended for another month, so the Chippewas will have to find a capable starter to hold the latter’s place until he comes back or someone to take over completely. Daniel Richardson, George Pearson, Cincinnati transfer John Keller and freshman Tyler Pape will be competing for the right to start the season off for the Chippewas. Richardson is the only one of the group that has thrown a collegiate pass and he has only thrown three.

Despite losing a 1,000-yard rusher in Jonathan Ward, CMU is fortunate enough for Kobe Lewis to return for another season. CMU had two 1,000-yard rushers and Lewis should be in line for another big season after having 1,074 yards and 12 touchdowns as a sophomore. CMU will need to find someone to fill the backup role, but Lewis is one of the more underrated runners in the MAC and could challenge for an All-MAC spot if he stays healthy.

The receiving corps for Central Michigan will be among the best in the country. Kalil Pimpleton is back after a breakout sophomore season that saw him reel in 82 passes for 894 yards and six touchdowns. He is a smaller receiver that is used primarily in the slot, but the Chippewas have threats on the outside as well.

JaCorey Sullivan and Tyrone Scott are back as well and they are perfect compliments to Pimpleton on the outside. Tight end Tony Poljan is a big target at 6-7, 260 pounds, and was the fourth-leading receiver for the team as well but he recently decided to transfer.

Whoever starts at quarterback will have plenty of exciting options to throw to.

CMU is returning two offensive line starters from last season, but replacing the others will be a tall task for the Chippewas that they will need to solve if they want their new quarterback to be successful.
