SEC Football: Top 50 players entering the 2020 season
Demani Richardson of Texas A&M had a stellar freshman season for the Aggies in 2019 to quickly become one of the SEC’s top defensive backs.
Richardson had 71 total tackles, recorded 0.5 sacks, picked off a pass, forced a fumble and defended two passes to earn 2019 SEC All-Freshman Team honors from the coaches.
He is on Athlon’s preseason All-SEC second team defense entering 2020.
The future in Oxford is bright with John Rhys Plumlee as the Ole Miss starting quarterback.
As a true freshman in 2019, Plumee appeared in nine games, making eight starts in which he ran for 1,023 yards, shattering the Ole Miss record by a quarterback. It was also a school freshman rushing record as was his 113.7 rushing yards per game ranked the highest among all freshmen. He added 12 rushing touchdowns to his totals while also tossing four touchdowns with 910 passing yards.
He was named a second-team Freshman All-American by The Athletic and figures to continue to improve under new head coach and offensive guru Lane Kiffin.
There aren’t many centers in the country as dominant as Georgia’s Trey Hill. He has played in all 14 games for the Bulldogs each of the last two seasons and will figure to keep that streak alive in 2020.
He was named AP All-SEC second team in 2019 after being named the co-winner of Georgia’s most improved player award on offense, given at team’s postseason banquet.
Hill enters his junior season on Athlon’s preseason All-SEC second team.
Texas A&M tight end Jalen Wydermyer put together a monster freshman season that already has him ranked among the SEC’s best players.
Wydermyer had 32 catches for 447 yards for a team-leading six touchdown grabs. He was named to the SEC All-Freshman Team by the head coaches, as well as the AP All-SEC second team.
The 6-foot-5 tight end enters his sophomore year on Athlon’s preseason All-SEC second team.
Like his teammate Wydermyer, Texas A&M running back Isaiah Spiller had a monster freshman season in 2019.
Spiller ran for 946 yards and 10 touchdowns while catching 29 passes for 203 yards. He finished the year with 1,149 total yards to earn SEC All-Freshman Team honors from the league’s coaches.
He enters 2020 on Athlon’s All-SEC second team.
