Toledo football will look to bounce back and get back to the postseason in 2020 after being the only bowl bowl eligible team left out last season.

To put it in simple terms, 2019 was a weird season for the Toledo Rockets. They won six games, including four victories over bowl eligible teams but were the odd man out as they were not selected for a bowl game.

The bad luck ended the Rockets streak of four straight bowl bids, but they still did extend their streak of posting a .500 record or better to five seasons.

In 2020, Toledo will enter the fifth year of the Jason Candle era. He climbed the ladder to head coach as he joined the Rockets’ staff as tight ends coach in 2009, was the wide receivers coach from 2010-11, offensive coordinator and wide receivers coach from 2012-13 and then added assistant head coach on top of his offensive coordinator and wide receivers coaching duties from 2014-15.

Candle went 34-19 in his first four years leading the Rockets and will look to continue his winning ways as Toledo gets set for another year in an improving MAC.

The Rockets bring back plenty of experience on both sides of the ball and are poised to leave no choice but to be included in a bowl game.

Here’s an in-depth look at what may be in store for the Toledo Rockets in 2020.
