Texas football faces a pivotal 2020 season after a disappointing 2019 campaign and a coaching staff shakeup this past offseason.

Texas football faced considerable hype heading into 2019 with quarterback Sam Ehlinger back for his junior season and big time playmakers Collin Johnson and Devin Duvernay on the outside and the Longhorns were coming off a huge Sugar Bowl win over the Georgia Bulldogs.

Despite a loss to eventual national champion LSU early in the year, Texas still had a shot to have a great season.

The defense would go on to sustain an insurmountable number of injuries and the Longhorns could not find ways to win the close games, as only one of their losses was by double digits. The defense finished the season ranked 127th against the pass and head coach Tom Herman decided it was time for a shakeup in the coaching staff.

Despite a solid year on offense, Texas made a change and brought in former Ohio State and Oklahoma State offensive coordinator Mike Yurich to lead the attack and he will have a heck of a quarterback in Ehlinger to lead the charge.

The defense will be under new leadership as well with Todd Orlando being let go and former Rutgers head coach and Ohio State defensive coordinator Chris Ash will be taking charge on that side of the ball and implementing his 4-2-5 scheme.

Texas is mocked every preseason by fans and analysts alike whenever the phrase “Texas is back” is uttered, but if Herman can’t bring the Longhorns back soon, he may be shown the door.

The Big 12 has not made a decision as to whether they will play a conference-only schedule, like the Big Ten and Pac-12 have, so these predictions could look quite different in the future.

Here’s how the Longhorns’ season will currently play out.
