As a true freshman in 2019, former three-star prospect Kevin Harris did not get many touches, but when he did carry the ball for the Gamecocks, he made the most of his opportunities.
Harris ran for 179 yards and four touchdowns on just 21 carries, which was good for an average of 8.6 yards per carry and a touchdown on every 5.25 attempts. His biggest game came in the Gamecocks victory over Charleston Southern as he ran for 147 yards and three scores.
He took home one of three strength and conditioning awards from the South Carolina coaching staff at the end of the season and now enters his sophomore year with a chance to play an increased role.
The Gamecocks two primary running backs from a year ago in Rico Dowdle (Cowboys) and Tavien Feaster (Jaguars) are in the NFL leaving Harris in a position battle with Deshaun Fenwick who ran for 111 yards a year ago and incoming freshman and four-star recruit MarShawn Lloyd for the starting job.
If Harris is able to win it, the Gamecocks run game will remain in good hand even with their two starters from 2019 gone.
