South Carolina Football: 3 most underrated players entering 2020 season
Jaycee Horn was one of the SEC’s most underrated corners during his sophomore campaign of 2019.
Horn started all 12 games for the Gamecocks in which he recorded 40 total tackles with a team-high nine pass breakups and two forced fumbles. He dominated in South Carolina’s season opener against North Carolina as he had five tackles, two forced fumbles, a sack and a pass breakup.
His stellar sophomore season came one year after he was named to the SEC All-Freshman Team in 2018 as he made 11 starts in which he made 45 total tackles with four tackles for loss, two sacks and eight pass breakups.
The 6-foot-1 corner enters his junior season Phil Steele’s preseason All-SEC second-team defense and on Athlon Sports’ third-team but is often left out when discussing the SEC’s top corners.
Perhaps the reason Horn out of the conversation of the SEC’s top corners is the fact he did not grab an interception in either of his first two college seasons which further highlights his ability to break up tackles and stop the run from his corner spot is overlooked by many.
He’ll look to put his name in the conversation with another productive season paired up with another corner who is arguably even more underrated.
