Louisiana Tech football has been a remarkably consistent program and is now aiming for a seventh straight bowl victory and challenge for the C-USA title.

Skip Holtz has done a remarkable job building one of the country’s most consistent programs at Louisiana Tech. He has had to replace quite a few defensive coordinators and deal with a lot of turnover on the roster, yet the Bulldogs carry on and last season, they recorded their first 10-win campaign in program history.

The one thing that’s missing under Holtz is a conference championship. Louisiana Tech has not won a conference title since they were in the WAC in 2011 and if not for a six-point loss to eventual C-USA runner-up UAB, the Bulldogs may have finally climbed to the top.

Louisiana Tech has had to deal with a lot of coaching turnover under Holtz, especially on the defensive side of the ball. He has had the pleasure of having Manny Diaz, Blake Baker and Bob Diaco as his defensive coordinators and the Bulldogs have had some of the best defenses in the group of five.

Diaco left for Purdue this past offseason and Holtz is bringing in Old Dominion defensive coordinator David Blackwell to lead a unit that is only returning two starters on that side of the ball.

Co-offensive coordinator Todd Fitch is also gone for the Bulldogs, as he left for Vanderbilt this past offseason. This left Holtz to promote fellow co-offensive coordinator Joe Sloan to be the unquestioned leader of the offense.

With so much coaching and roster turnover this season, is it fair to expect a conference title push from the Bulldogs? Louisiana Tech may need to strike now because it is only a matter of time before Holtz may leave for greener pastures.
