Florida State Football: Tamorrion Terry is still criminally underrated

Tamorrion Terry broke out as a freshman for Florida State football and then followed that up with an even bigger sophomore year.

When Tamorrion Terry decided to come back for his redshirt junior season, he probably didn’t envision a global pandemic putting everything on hold and potentially leading to a cancellation of the season but that’s where we sit right now.

The ACC announced a conference-only 11-game schedule which will include 10 league games and one non-conference matchup. That could impact a lot of guys’ NFL draft status who decided to return for another season and Terry is one of them. He may not have gotten selected early in the 2020 NFL Draft, but if he knew his junior season was up in the air, he may not have returned.

Terry admitted he had a lot of work to do when he announced his return which was a surprise given that he posted career numbers even after a breakout freshman year.

In fact, Terry finished with 744 yards and eight touchdowns on 35 catches as a freshman, averaging 21.3 yards per reception. As a sophomore, he caught 60 passes for 1,188 yards and nine touchdowns, maintaining a 19.8 yards per catch average. His production increased and he continued to showcase his deep-threat ability.

Florida State is going through a transition phase with Mike Norvell taking over for Willie Taggart, but that shouldn’t change expectations for Terry — it should almost increase them.

Yet — somehow — the soon-to-be junior isn’t talked about as much as guys like Ja’Marr Chase, Justyn Ross, DeVonta Smith, TJ Vasher or Chris Olave. That’s just a crime.

That needs to change heading into the (potential) 2020 season as he’ll be one of the top five receivers nationally and if his first two seasons are any indication of what kind of jump we can expect from Terry, he’ll be a 70-plus catch, 1,300-yard receiver with 10-plus touchdowns.

No more sleeping on Terry; it’s just not right.
