Kedon Slovis was impressive as a freshmen for USC football. Here’s why the sophomore could win the Heisman Trophy.

Entering the 2019 season, Kedon Slovis was a relatively unknown name.

The three-star recruit’s, according to 247Sports, scholarship offer list wasn’t too impressive. There were no big-time programs looking at Slovis, his offers included SMU, Hawaii, NC State, Oregon State, UNLV as well as other non-Power Five schools.

USC came knocking in the spring of 2018 and he committed to the Trojans.

Entering the 2020 season, Slovis is a dark-horse Heisman candidate with a lot of hype and excitement surrounding him.

Last season as a freshman, Slovis stepped in early after starter JT Daniels went down for the year. He surprised a lot of people, throwing for 3,502 yards with a 72 percent completion rate along with 30 touchdowns and nine interceptions. He was third in the country in completion percentage, only behind Heisman winner Joe Burrow and Utah’s Tyler Huntley. He was also 37 spots ahead of the next closest Power Five starting freshman quarterback in Spencer Sanders of Oklahoma State.

Pro Football Focus gave Slovis a 80.8 passing grade last season, which was the fifth-highest grade for a true freshmen Power Five quarterback since 2014. Slovis’ freshman campaign surprised most people, not those who knew Kedon though.

Slovis is going to be a legit Heisman threat in 2020 and he could realistically take home the award.
