Each year, players transfer to other college football programs and dominate, while others struggle. Which guys will have headlining seasons in 2020?

College sports are unique in comparison to the professional level in that a player’s college decision holds more weight than if a player signed a professional contract. As a player of the highest level, you’re generally not bound to a single team for any length of time. At the very least, you’re able to play each and every season, no matter what decisions you’ve made.

That’s why you don’t frequently see players don multiple jerseys in college: they’ll have to sit out a year, delaying their entire career by a season. This can be detrimental for multiple reasons: they can’t instantly play, there’s no guarantee they’ll find the right system the second time around and it could even affect certain players’ draft stocks.

But every single season, there are at least a couple of transfers who have a huge impact on the game.

Last year, the best player in college football, Joe Burrow, was a transfer from Ohio State to LSU. Arguably the second-best player, Justin Fields, was a transfer from Georgia to Ohio State. There is no shortage of talent that simply didn’t fit in the original system that they had committed to as a 16-18-year-old high school student.

This leads us to the current year: 2020. In an irregular season that may not even happen, the impact of a transfer player may be amplified. Time will tell, but today we’ll look at the top five transfers heading into 2020.
