Games 1-3 of LSU football’s perfect schedule

Not many teams would call a season opener against Alabama the start of a “perfect” schedule, but for LSU, this would be the best-case scenario.

There’s no better time in the season to see Alabama than before Mac Jones gains any momentum at quarterback and the Tide get any confidence. They’ll be starting a new quarterback, replacing a plethora of new starters and this would be the opportunity for LSU to rise up and bite the Tide.

It would be ideal to follow up a game against potential No. 1 overall team Alabama in the opener with a cupcake or two. Since there are no FCS or Group of Five teams on the schedule anymore, the next closest thing would be a home game against Ole Miss.

The Rebels do have a pulse unlike many FCS teams, so this isn’t exactly a guaranteed win, but they’re under the direction of a new head coach and don’t have a clear starter at quarterback.

Ole Miss might be close to a layup in Week 2 and a confidence-builder or momentum-sustainer depending on what happens in Week 1 against Alabama.

OK, I may have said that Ole Miss was the closest thing to an FCS team on LSU’s schedule to follow up Alabama, and I was wrong. That distinction belongs to Arkansas.

The Razorbacks have been the laughingstock of the SEC for years and that won’t change immediately under Sam Pittman in 2020.

This should still be a sure win on the road for the Tigers.
