West Virginia football: 3 breakout candidates for Mountaineers in 2020
By Phil Poling
After starting three games and appearing in 11 total a year ago, Ali Jennings is the ultimate breakout candidate for the West Virginia Mountaineers this upcoming season. He totaled just 19 catches for 192 yards and one score, but it’s apparent he’s capable of much more.
Jennings watched fellow freshman Sam James lead the Mountaineers in yards and receptions last season, but it’s obvious the void left by David Sills and Gary Jennings Jr. hasn’t been completely filled just yet. Senior T.J. Simmons will have a hand in the process, but Jennings injects an energy into the offense that could propel them to new heights.
The 6-foot-1 sophomore caught the eyes of plenty college football programs during the recruiting process, hauling in 20 offers that included Georgia Tech, Marshall, Michigan State and North Carolina.
With the immediate prospect of not just playing time but also production, it appears Jennings made the right decision.
