Last year, a handful of college football teams didn’t put together the season they expected. Which of these teams will have a bounce-back season?

Every year, certain teams are projected to be contenders in their conferences and in the College Football Playoff race, but simply fail to live up to expectations. It’s an inevitability in a game that’s more unpredictable than any other sport in the world.

Whether or not these teams succeed can come down to a few factors.

For many, they’re simply hyped up by the media beyond what they truly deserved in the first place. You can chalk this up to a program having made a name for themselves in the past most of the time. This category of teams can often include blue blood programs like Notre Dame, Michigan and even Alabama recently.

Some teams had all the stars aligning: a strong squad the previous season, easy schedule for the current season and a great coaching staff. They didn’t make the name for themselves that some other programs did, but they had the country behind them. Only problem is that they completely flopped when the season came around.

The third type of team, in my opinion, is the most interesting one. As a Michigan State fan, I saw this first hand in a perfect example of this in 2016. A team that had talent, hype and a promising roster, but still failed miserably. Usually, this can come down to team chemistry or off-the-field problems.

Regardless of the circumstances, every team that is listed here didn’t meet their expectations last season. What better way to combat this then to over-hype them again?
