This might be the first truly winnable game of the season for Arkansas and it isn’t even that easy. Mississippi State is also under the direction of a new coach in Mike Leach who comes to town from Washington State and brings with him Stanford transfer KJ Costello who’ll start at quarterback.

While this one’s on the road, it’ll be a good test for the Razorbacks’ defense with Costello and Kylin Hill as an elite duo and a win would be massive for the team’s confidence heading into the first bye week.

No one will expect Arkansas to be competitive here, and that’s OK. The Razorbacks will likely get their doors blown off by the Gators on Halloween in Gainesville, but an extra week to prepare would help make the loss a little less painful.

As long as the Razorbacks can keep things close on the road, it’ll add confidence to a young roster. Seeing Florida after a bye is best-case scenario.

While this may look like a massive mismatch on paper, the Arkansas vs. Texas A&M rivalry is always closer than it should be. The Aggies have been the better program for years, but have had trouble closing the door on Arkansas on a neutral field.

The same could be the case this season with Arkansas improving its coaching staff and adding a veteran quarterback like Feleipe Franks to the mix. This could turn into a massive early-November upset.
