Arkansas Football: Constructing perfect 10-game schedule for 2020
The final game before bye week No. 2 pins the Razorbacks against a rising Tennessee squad at home and this could also have the potential for an upset.
Arkansas will be hoping that the experience of Feleipe Franks plays a factor here and Rakeem Boyd and a talented receiving corps can’t hurt. Tennessee isn’t untouchable in this situation and this could be the spark that the Razorbacks need to finish the season red-hot after a tumultuous start.
Let’s say Arkansas pulls off an upset over Texas A&M or Tennessee, a bye following that wouldn’t be the best thing, but it’s needed leading up to a game against a top-10 Auburn squad.
The Tigers return Heisman-hopeful sophomore quarterback Bo Nix and a talented offense as well as a stingy defense as always under Gus Malzahn. This won’t be a pretty game for Arkansas on the road, but like the Florida matchup, the only good time to play the Tigers would be after an extra week of preparation.
Fresh off a tough road loss against an SEC contender, Arkansas will travel to Columbia to take on one of the rebuilding programs in the conference, also under the direction of a new coach.
Eli Drinkwitz has a ton of work to do at Missouri and this is a winnable road game for the Razorbacks. If there’s one road game Arkansas probably could win this season, it’s at Missouri and if that happens, the momentum would be immeasurable heading into the season finale.
At this point, Sam Pittman may be fresh off his first road victory as the Razorbacks’ head coach with his team riding high. Arkansas will then welcome a lowly Ole Miss team to Fayetteville for a chance at an extremely rare two-game winning streak.
Why did I schedule these two winnable games at the end of the year? It would be more beneficial for Arkansas in the long run to piece together a win streak at the end of the year to build momentum for 2021 than it would at the start of the year before ending on a sour note.
