LSU football: Updated game-by-game predictions for 2020 season
LSU got lucky in their addition of two new opponents, facing what will likely be the East’s two worst teams in 2020.
Missouri is a team in transition after firing head coach Barry Odom after finishing 6-6 last season and they hired Eli Drinkwitz away from Appalachian State. He was only at App State for one season, but finished 13-1 and won the Sun Belt, while also scoring big wins over North Carolina and South Carolina.
Drinkwitz will have to replace last year’s starting quarterback Kelly Bryant and the favorite to win the job this season is TCU transfer Shawn Robinson, who sat out last season. The Tigers had a pretty good defense last season and do return seven starters from that unit.
Drinkwitz is still very much unproven as a head coach after spending only one season coaching in Boone and will have too many questions on offense to be able to play with a team like LSU this season.
Final Score: LSU 31, Missouri 13 (3-0)
Florida was one of the teams that gave LSU a good game last season and now the Gators have SEC and national title hopes going into 2020.
Gainesville is always a tough place to play and will be a challenge for new starting quarterback Myles Brennan. The Gators return the most experienced quarterback in the SEC in Kyle Trask who is being coached by one of the nation’s best offensive minds in Dan Mullen.
These two teams are very even to me. Florida probably is more proven at the quarterback position and the game is in Gainesville. Still, I think the Tigers find a way to win with the duo of Ja’Marr Chase and Terrace Marshall and the defense makes a key stop in another excellent game in this crossover rivalry.
Final Score: LSU 28, Florida 24 (4-0)
