Louisiana Football: Can Ragin’ Cajuns finally win Sun Belt in 2020?
By Dante Pryor
How will Louisiana football fare in 2020?
Though we do not know exactly what’s going to happen this season, we will predict their given schedule despite possible changes.
The schedule is manageable, with Iowa State being their only Power Five opponent this season. It would have been better to get them early, considering they are breaking in both a new coaching staff and a new quarterback.
- Sept. 12: at Iowa State (L) — Tough game against one of the best quarterbacks in the nation in Brock Purdy.
- Sept. 19: at Georgia State (W) — The Panthers aren’t strong enough defensively to beat the Cajuns.
- Sept. 26: vs. Georgia Southern (W) — Another 50/50 game, but the Cajuns eke out a close one on the road.
- Oct. 7: at Appalachian State (W) — They can’t lose five straight to the Mountaineers, can they? New staff, some new faces. Best time to beat them.
- Oct. 17: vs. Coastal Carolina (W) — This should be a solid win after a bye week.
- Oct. 23: at UAB (W) — UAB might be one of the better teams from Conference USA this season, but Louisiana will be clicking on all cylinders at this point.
- Oct. 31: at Texas State (W) — Second worst team in the Sun Belt.
- Nov. 5: vs. Arkansas State (W) — I like the Cajuns, but they better be ready. The Wolves can score.
- Nov. 14: vs. South Alabama (W) — Worst team in the Sun Belt.
- Nov. 21: vs. Central Arkansas (W) — This should be a cakewalk.
- Nov. 28: at UL Monroe (W) — Rivalry games are never easy, but the Cajuns are the better team here.
Prediction: 10-1 (8-0 Sun Belt)
Odds are they lose at least one of those 50-50 games. However, the Cajuns are for real this season and will give Billy Napier the best going-away present: a Sun Belt title.
