Georgia Football: 3 breakout candidates for Bulldogs in 2020
By John Vogel
People got their first taste of Travon Walker against Auburn when he collected his first collegiate sack and clinched the victory for the Bulldogs. The five-star prospect out of Thomaston, Ga., earned Freshman All-SEC honors as a role player on Georgia’s defense.
Walker played multiple positions in high school, including tight end and running back.
At 6-foot-5 and 290 pounds now, his best position is on the 3-4 front of the Bulldogs, rushing after the passer. Walker collected 2.5 sacks last season and made his biggest impact in the Sugar Bowl victory over Baylor last season. He collected three tackles, a sack and recovered a fumble in that game.
Walker was featured as the “Rising Star” in the Athlon Sports preseason magazine this season. While he is projected as the backup defensive end this season, Malik Herring in front of him is a monster. It’s scary as an opposing SEC team to think about Herring coming off of the field to catch a breather and have Walker ready to attack with a fresh set of legs and wind.
