ACC: Georgia Tech

There are a couple of teams that could claim to be the worst team in the ACC, but for the sake of simplicity, I chose the team with the worst record in 2019. Georgia Tech stumbled to a 3-9 record last year under new head coach Geoff Collins. A drop-off was expected after the departure of Paul Johnson, who had been there for over a decade, but 3-9 is worse than most expected.

There are plenty of negatives to dwell on in a new system for the Yellow Jackets, but one positive is the rejuvenation of the culture and recruiting for this Atlanta school.

As things go for any long-time head coach, recruiting becomes difficult as a coaches tenure goes on. Paul Johnson wasn’t able to bring in enough talent to compete with ACC teams and in a new offensive system, that was exposed quickly.

This will be a long and grueling overhaul for Georgia Tech, but in the end, Collins will hopefully transform this program into a team that can succeed in modern-day college football. Expect vastly improved recruiting and slightly worse play on the field until Collins gets all of the players that he recruited into a Yellow Jacket uniform.
