Big Ten: Rutgers

Despite being a Michigan State fan and being in a small Twitter war with Rutgers, I’m actually a huge supporter of this football team. If you keep up with my Saturday Blitz articles, you know that I’ve been hyping up Rutgers ever since they re-hired Greg Schiano.

Rutgers has had one of the worst stretches of any team in college football since joining the Big Ten. After winning eight games in their first season, they haven’t won any more than four since 2014. They haven’t just been losing either, they’ve been a doormat for other Big Ten teams to wipe the mud off of their cleats onto for the past few years.

Schiano will attempt to bring the Scarlet Knights back to where they were under his watch just under a decade ago. Before joining the Big Ten, he had this program as one that could win eight or more games during any given season. This included an 11-2 season in 2006 where his squad beat Kansas State in the Texas Bowl in dominant fashion, coming home with a 37-10 victory.

Schiano has the ability to bring this team back to national prominence, but it will take time. Expect Rutgers to be relevant again sometime in the next five years.
