Texas A&M Aggies

Texas A&M has the third-most players selected to the Senior Bowl Top 250 list, tied with Michigan and Ohio State with eight. It’s surprising to see as many Aggies on the list as there are Buckeyes when you consider how far below Ohio State they were in the AP preseason Top 25 poll.

The Aggies; Senior Bowl contenders are led by quarterback Kellen Mond.

In a potentially deep 2021 NFL Draft quarterback class, Mond needs the 2020 season to show he is an NFL-caliber player. The opportunity to improve his stock at the Senior Bowl will be just as invaluable.

Behind a porous offensive line, he has shown he has the toughness to last in the NFL. Mond has plenty of zip on his passes and with 1,315 career rushing yards he has also demonstrated his ability to extend the play with his legs as a dual-threat quarterback.

To improve his stock this year he needs to show quicker mental processing and the ability to lead his team against quality opposition. The Senior Bowl will certainly help with the latter as he goes against the best defensive players in the country.

Mond is joined on the Senior Bowl Top 250 by his favorite target from 2019, wide receiver Jhamon Ausbon.

Ausbon accounted for 66 receptions, 872 receiving yards and five touchdowns in his junior year. Like Mond, he is set to be part of a deep class in the 2021 NFL Draft and a standout performance in the Senior Bowl would go a long way to improving his chances of being drafted.

One of the concerns over Ausbon is his lack of speed, but the wide receiver has worked hard in the offseason to come in lighter than ever in the hope of adding some speed to his game.

Hopefully that doesn’t come at the detriment of one of his greatest assets. At 6-foot-2 and around 220 pounds, Ausbon has showcased his ability to withstand contact whilst hauling the ball in which is essential for his role as a short to intermediate option for Mond.

The six others that join Mond and Ausbon on the Senior Bowl Top 250 are Michael Clemons, Carson Green, Jared Hooker, Buddy Johnson, Myles Jones and defensive lineman Jayden Peevy rounds out the list.
