Ja’Marr Chase has opted out of the 2020 season to train for the NFL draft. What chance does LSU football have of winning the SEC without him?

All-American wide receiver Ja’Marr Chase, a potential first-round prospect for the 2021 NFL Draft is opting out of the 2020 season to focus on his professional career. Dennis Dodd broke the news on the CBS Sports college football podcast “Cover 3” with Barton Simmons, Chip Patterson, Tom Fornelli and Danny Kanell.

Chase produced huge numbers last season with Joe Burrow and Co., arguably the most successful and best offense ever put together on the field at the collegiate level. He caught 84 passes for 1,780 yards, a stunning 21.2 yards per catch and 20 touchdowns.

Burrow, Clyde Edwards-Helare and Justin Jefferson were all taken in the first round of the 2020 NFL Draft.

You can’t forget Chase’s incredible national championship performance against the 2020 NFL Draft’s 16th overall selection, Clemson cornerback AJ Terrell. The LSU receiver, combined with magical throws from Joe Burrow, embarrassed one of the country’s best cornerbacks in the biggest game of the year.

It’s known that Chase can step up in big games, and with his magical 2020 season, there is little left for him to prove. That being said, LSU has the makings of a dynasty. They have the makings to be a “next man up” school in the SEC, and Chase not playing shouldn’t hurt the team too badly.

Here are three reasons LSU will still win the SEC West title despite not having Chase.
